In der Medizin beschreibt der Begriff Potenz die Wirksamkeit eines Medikaments. Ausschlaggebend für die Beurteilung ist die Konzentration des Wirkstoffs, bei der eine Wirkung auftritt. Ein Wirkstoff mit einer hoher Potenz wirkt schon bei geringer Konzentration (hochpotent); ein Wirkstoff mit einer geringen Potenz zeigt auch bei höherer Dosierung nur wenig Wirkung (niederpotent).
